Belgian-Peruvian artist Shirley Villavicencio Pizango is better known as Shurleey. The artist whose illustrations for Serax depicts the flora and the fauna in rich painterly style, is a rising star in the art world. Her vibrant portraits shown as far away as New York.
Serax collaborates with Shurleey to bring her universe to life in ceramic form. From a series of vases to a collection of plates, each piece features its own scene. The ornamental illustrations of flowers, plants, fruit and people radiate the warmth and myths of South America. The name of the collection comes from a small village of Santiago de Borja, in Peru, where Shurleey grew up along a tributary of the Amazon River. With this hand-painted tableware, Shurleey’s art brings joy, and hopefully, some taste too, from the fabulous South and Shurleey’s rich imagination.
